We've officially ended our leader training and we're gearing up to start Summer Camp 2011! Participants are registering now and will be going to their rooms to unpack and settle in, so the leaders get some down time until dinner.
To begin, the BCEC team has definitely felt the hospitality and fellowship of the Nordic churches. From the moment we arrived, they swarmed to introduce themselves and get us familiar with the facilities. The food here is super delicious (and healthier!), and the sky gets dark (but not dark enough to see stars) at around 11pm until 2 or 3am when the sun comes up. I've also compiled a list of words for your vocabulary:
Swedish (Svenska)
- fika = coffee break
- hej = hello
- hej då = goodbye
- god morgon, godnatt = good morning, good night
- tack (så mycket) = thank (you very much)
- var är toaletten = where's the toilet
- förstå? = understand?
- jag är hungrig = I'm hungry
- skola = school
- välkommen till Sjövik = welcome to Sjövik
- måndag, tisdag, onsdag, torsdag, fredag, lördag, söndag = days of the week
Finnish (Suomalainen)
- hei, moi = hello
- hei hei = goodbye
- huomenta = good morning
- kiitos - thankyou
- missa on vessa? = where is the toilet?
- maanantai, tiistai, keskiviikko, torstai, perjantai, lauantai, sunnuntai = days of the week
Norwegian (Norske)
- hei = hello
- jeg er sulten = I'm hungry
- hvor er doen = where's the toilet?
We're praying for God to work mightily this week. Please pray that we would continue to rely on God for leading us through camp, and that His love would be made known to the participants through word and deed.
More updates to come!
